The U.S. self-driving company Waymo LLC, the driverless car division of Google's parent company Alphabet, has registered its exclusively-founded enterprise in Shanghai, according to information published on National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.
Waymo's registration in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone was approved in May, with registered capital reaching 3.5 million yuan. It is an exclusively foreign-owned enterprise which has a business scope ranging from business information consultation to driverless cars' design, testing and supporting services.
Waymo LLC was initiated as a driverless car project of Google and is now one of the leading players in the self-driving industry in the United States.
Kevin Bradley Vosen will be the legal representative and the chairman of the newly started company in Shanghai.
Shanghai's further opening-up is attracting an increasing number of foreign investors. U.S. carmaker Tesla Inc. announced a plan to open its first overseas plant in Shanghai last month.
