About 2.99 billion trips are expected to be made during China's annual Spring Festival rush between January 21 and March 1, according to data from China's Ministry of Transport recently.
In detail, 413 million trips will be made by train, 73 million by air and about 2.5 billion by highways and water.
People working in Shenzhen, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai are those who find themselves most difficult to get a ticket to go home while Anhui, Henan, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces are the places where most people are heading.
Data also shows that Hangzhou has become one of the largest migrant cities following Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
More and more people choose to go travelling with their families during Spring Festival in recent years. There will be 400 million Chinese people planning on travelling during the week-long holiday while 7 million of them will go overseas, according to data from Ctrip.com, China's online ticket and hotel booking website.
Domestic cities like Sanya, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Xiamen are among the most popular destinations while foreign countries like Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam are Chinese people's favorites.
