China's top sports authority on Wednesday rolled out a plan for Chinese athletes to compete in every event of the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing, Chinanews.com. reported.
The plan, which was released by the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) at a news conference along with three other plans on the service support, technical support as well as anti-doping measures for the Beijing Winter Olympics, specifies the timetable for Chinese sports teams to reach that goal.
As emphasized by Gao Zhidan, deputy director general of the GASC, at the news conference, the goal of Chinese athletes is to be qualified for attending all the 109 events of the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.
Apart from setting the goal for professional athletes, the GASC also unveiled a schedule aiming at motivating up to 300 million Chinese people to take part in winter sports between 2018 and 2022.
Since Beijing won the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in 2015, The Chinese government has issued a series of long-term plans to boost the development of its winter sports industry.
According to a plan for the development of China's winter sports industry which was released by the GASC in November 2016, by increasing the number of winter sports facilities, developing winter sports tourism and supporting the manufacturing of winter sports equipment, the size of China's winter sports industry is projected to reach 600 billion yuan (USD 87.76 billion) by 2020 and 1 trillion yuan (USD 146.28 billion) by 2025.
