An event themed “China in the new era: Xiongan - A Vision of the Future of Cities” was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Approximately 500 people attended the event, including ambassadors of many countries, leaders of international organizations, Chinese and foreign journalists, and representatives from Fortune 500 companies, business associations, and scientific research institutions.

Wang Yi, the Chinese State Councilor, and the Foreign Minister stated that establishing the Xiongan New Area is an important decision to further the reform initiatives. A large number of measures for reforms and innovations will be tried and piloted first in Xiongan.

The plan for the new area invites bids from around the world, and there are 279 organizations from eight countries actively engaged in the bidding, which composes of 12 world-class international teams.

Wang Yi said that the Xiongan New Area would be a role model of China’s high-quality development in the future. The Xiongan New Area will be the next one to attract more international talents, technologies, capital and projects to provide opportunities for cooperation between China and other countries.

Wang Dongfeng, secretary of the Hebei Province Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that Hebei Province would put efforts into promoting the planning, construction and innovative development of the Xiongan New Area.

The Xiongan New Area has learned from all the domestic and foreign advanced experiences and practices. Xiongan will welcome foreign friends to participate in its construction and development.

Xu Qin, Hebei’s governor, stated that Xiongan is a city of the future from five aspects: green ecology, innovation, intelligence, livability, as well as openness and inclusiveness.

Xiongan will persist in green and low-carbon production and modern lifestyle living, as well as an urban construction operational model. Xiongan will adopt advanced technology in its sewage construction and garbage disposal management system.

Xiongan will establish some essential platforms, such as a national laboratory, and promote cooperation with domestic and foreign world-class educational institutions and technology companies.
