The first 2018 International 3D Printing Carnival was held in the Wisdom Bay technology innovation park, Baoshan District, Shanghai, starting from May 31 to June 2, 2018, according to a report by eastday.com.

During the three days of the Carnival, there are various activities related to 3D printing, including exhibitions, summit meetings, concerts, interactive workshops, fashion shows and so forth. Experts and scholars in the advanced manufacturing industry from many countries are invited to discuss the new models and paths of 3D printing applications.

The 3D printing concept is a new manufacturing technology and has been widely applied to various industries, including automobile, spaceflight, medical treatment and so forth.

In 1983, Chuck Hull, the founder of the 3D Systems Corporation, created the first-ever Stereo Lithography Apparatus (SLA) 3D printer, which was donated to the China 3D Printing Cultural Museum at the carnival opening ceremony.

The world’s first mass-produced 3D printed new energy electric vehicle XEV will be shown in the 3D Printing and New Energy Electric Automotive Exhibition. All its accessories are 3D printed non-structural parts. The XEV is made from environmentally friendly materials, extracted from corn seeds.

The summit meeting, themed “Parametric Design and 3D Printing”, invited many experts in the architectural design industry, to share their insights and experiences of how to apply parametric design and the 3D printing into artistic creations.

Baoshan has built an industrial development pattern led by famous domestic and foreign 3D printing enterprises, and formed five key areas for 3D printing equipment, software design, material research, industrial service, and platform service.

The Shanghai Chuangkejia Technology Company has formed a 3D printing industrial cluster in Wisdom Bay, by creating an application platform for sharing information on 3D printing innovations, establishing the China 3D Printing Cultural Museum and forming a union of nine 3D printing companies.

Baoshan has also gathered a number of new materials and 3D printing companies with a focus on technological innovation and industrial application.
