BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed mixed Monday with the liquor-making industry leading the decline.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.34 percent to close at 2,785.87. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.36 percent to close at 8,844.86.
More than 1,500 stocks gained on the two bourses, while nearly 1,700 stocks closed lower.
Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 300.6 billion yuan (about 43.7 billion U.S. dollars), up from 288.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, was up 1.3 percent to close at 1,531.34.
The liquor-making sector was among the heaviest losers, with Jiangsu Yanghe Brewery Joint-Stock losing 2.81 percent to end at 113.2 yuan.
The medical equipment industry performed well. Shares of Lepu Medical Technology (Beijing) gained 3.8 percent to close at 33.62 yuan.
