BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index falling down 1.49 percent to close at 2,568.10 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.51 percent lower at 7,444.48 points.
Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 238.73 billion yuan (about 34.52 billion U.S. dollars), down from 308.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most shares declined, with losers outnumbering gainers 1,155 to 222 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,440 to 540 on the Shenzhen bourse.
Coal, automobile, environment protection, steel and cement were among the sectors that declined the most, with both Ningbo Jifeng Auto Parts and Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection dropping by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 8.80 yuan and 19.89 yuan per share respectively.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.43 percent to end at 1,250.22 points.
