Chinese company conducts CSR training course in Myanmar

YANGON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- A training course to promote companies' corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Myanmar and relations between employers and employees began in Yangon Thursday.

The two-day training course is conducted by China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) with the cooperation of China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (CECCM), Ethical Trading Initiative, German Cooperation and SMART Myanmar.

The course will provide guidance for responsible overseas investment of Chinese textile and garment industry in Myanmar, CSR undertaking development status, gender equality in work and their social responsibility.

In addition, the training course also covers policy and administration system of the country's economic environment, law related with investment in Myanmar, Myanmar culture-based communication and relations between employers and employees in investment undertakings in the country as well as ethical training initiative (ETI)'s codes of conduct and requirements.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA) and CNTAC on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in Myanmar's garment sector.

Besides, China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar and China Textile Information Center of CNTAC also signed a MoU on the day for cooperation for sustainable development of Myanmar's garment industry.

In accordance with the Commerce Ministry, Myanmar earned 2.2 billion U.S. dollars from garment export during the six-month (April to September) transitional period.

There are over 400 garment factories with more than 300,000 workers in the industry and China topped the list of foreign investors in the country's garment industry.

The country's garment is also exported to markets of Japan, European Union, South Korea and the United States in addition to China.
