Chinese stocks close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed higher Tuesday, with large gains in the communication and entertainment sector.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.93 percent to close at 2,654.88 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.68 percent higher at 7,963.66 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 455.6 billion yuan (about 65.43 billion U.S. dollars), up from 393.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most shares rose, with gainers outnumbering losers 1,237 to 167 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,793 to 242 on the Shenzhen bourse.

The communication and entertainment sector saw large gains on Tuesday, with the sub-index up 3.92 percent. Both Shanghai New Culture Media Group and Great Wall International ACG rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 4.90 yuan per share and 5.24 per share respectively.

Bucking the upward trend, the textile machinery sector saw a 0.78-percent sub-index decline, with Jingwei Textile Machinery Company dropping by the daily limit of 10 percent to finish at 14.64 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.70 percent to close at 1,392.05 points.
