BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.66 percent, at 2,705.19 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.94 percent lower at 8,500.42 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.99 percent to close at 1,463.87 points.
Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 270.76 billion yuan (about 39.27 billion U.S. dollars).
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation lost 1.54 percent to end at 6.39 yuan. Zijin Mining Group Company Ltd fell 2.11 percent to 3.24 yuan.
Stocks related with the Tianjin Free Trade Zones and securities brokers bucked the trend. Citic Securities Company Ltd rose 0.5 percent to 15.95 yuan.
